Good Reads for Fertility: A Doula’s Recommendations

Trying to conceive a baby can be a journey filled with hope, joy, waiting, frustration, and everything in between. If you're in the midst of trying to have a baby, you are one of many. If you’re someone like me that struggles to get (and stay) pregnant, know that you're not alone. The reality is, it can be tough and emotionally draining. But I’ve found that planning ahead and focusing on nurturing my mind, body, and spirit can make a significant difference.

I am on my own fertility journey at the moment, and after struggling to conceive with my daughter, I'm taking charge and loading myself with lots of info. Today I’m going to share some of my favorite books that have been invaluable to me and that may help support you through your own fertility journey.

"Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler

This is the fertility bible. If you’re not already familiar, this book will teach you everything you need to know about your body and how to chart your cycle. It’s practical, detailed, and empowering. If you want to understand your fertility, learn more about your body and what it’s communicating to you and take control of your journey, this is my best recommendation.

"It Starts with the Egg" by Rebecca Fett

This book is a game-changer for anyone trying to improve egg quality. Rebecca Fett dives into the science behind egg health and provides clear, actionable steps to boost your fertility. It’s straightforward and packed with information you can start using right away.

"Real Food for Fertility" by Lily Nichols

Nutrition plays a huge role in fertility, and Lily Nichols legit nails it with this book. She breaks down what you should be eating to support your reproductive health with a no-nonsense approach. It’s all about real food and making practical, healthy changes to your diet. After decades of orthorexia and distorted body image, this book in particular has been an amazing resource for me in truly nourishing my body and helping to heal my relationship with food.

"Awakening Fertility: The Essential Art of Preparing for Pregnancy" by Heng Ou, Amely Greeven, and Marisa Belger

This book goes beyond the physical aspects of fertility and dives into preparing your mind and spirit for pregnancy. It’s a beautiful, holistic approach that combines ancient wisdom with modern practices. If you’re looking for a more spiritual and balanced perspective, this one’s for you.

"Making Babies: A Proven 3-Month Program for Maximum Fertility" by Sami S. David and Jill Blakeway

This book offers a comprehensive plan to boost your fertility. It combines Western and Eastern medical practices into a 3-month program that’s easy to follow. It’s practical, and covers everything from diet and supplements to lifestyle changes and supportive things like acupuncture.
