How to Find a Carrot Approved Doula

Amidst the excitement of planning for your baby’s arrival, you may also be looking to find a birth and postpartum doula to support you. We personally know how crucial doulas are for support during and after childbirth. Many of our clients are unaware that they might be eligible for reimbursement through their employer's Carrot Fertility Insurance Benefit. This benefit can cover the cost of doula services, both birth and postpartum, which can be an amazing source of support for growing families. Rather than contacting doula after doula, asking if they qualify to accept your Carrot benefits, you’ll find a solution with National Baby Co. We’re here to match you with top-notch, professional doulas who are approved to work with Carrot.

What is Carrot Fertility?

Carrot Fertility recognizes the importance of quality doula care and makes it possible for more families to get the help they need and deserve. Employers partner with Carrot Fertility to provide benefits that can cover fertility services, medication or supplement coverage, and also birth and postpartum doula support. Carrot Fertility helps narrow the gap for many families who are seeking these types of support but may not be able to afford it all on their own.

How to Use Carrot's Doula Benefit

To get reimbursed through Carrot Fertility, your doula must meet specific qualifications.

Here’s what you need to know:

Certification:
Your doula needs to have a valid certification from recognized programs like BirthWorks International, CAPPA, DONA International, or ICEA. Certification is not limited to these organizations, however.

Training:
Your doula must have completed at least 24 hours of training in areas such as labor, antepartum, postpartum, or bereavement support. They must also renew their certification periodically as well as continuing education.

Experience:
Your doula should be at least 18 years old and have 15 hours of experience in providing doula services, including labor support for at least three childbirths (with two vaginal births), postpartum support following 3 births, or bereavement support for at least 3 pregnancy losses.

To qualify for reimbursement with Carrot Fertility, you must have an active Carrot Fertility policy and use an approved doula who meets the qualifications above.

If you qualify for the Carrot Fertility benefit, the first step is to contact your employer or benefits manager and get the exact details of what’s coverage is included in your plan. Benefits vary widely depending on your employer's plan—some cover up to six weeks of daytime and overnight doula care, including prenatal and birth support, while others might offer different options.

Depending on your plan, you’ll either need to request a “superbill” or itemized receipt from your Carrot-approved doula, which you’ll submit to Carrot for reimbursement. Alternatively, some plans provide a “Carrot Card,” which basically works like a HSA or FSA card that you can use to pay for your certified doula services directly.

Steps to Get Started

  1. Verify Your Benefits:
Contact your employer to understand the specifics of your Carrot Fertility benefit. Plans can vary, so it’s essential to know what type of support is available to you and how much!

  2. Get Matched with a Doula at National Baby Co.

Complete our inquiry form to begin finding your Carrot-approved doula match. Share details such as location, services you’re seeking, overall budget (or what Carrot will cover), and any special requests you may have. For example, you can request to be matched with a doula who has experience supporting VBACs or one who has experience caring for twins. We personally review all inquiries and hand-select doula matches for you - no algorithms, no lists or directories to weed through, and no AI! Once matched you can review profiles and decide who you’d like to interview. Since many Carrot plans have generous coverage options with some including up to 16 hours of postpartum support per day, we can match you with multiple doulas to accommodate your ideal schedule and support needs.

  3. Book Doula Services:
Once you’ve interviewed and chosen your doula, they will provide you a contract and invoice to reserve their services. They will provide you with all the documents needed for reimbursement including an itemized invoice and a signed Carrot Fertility Attestation form. Please note, you will pay your doula directly for all services. If you have the Carrot Card, you can utilize that to pay for services.

  4. Submit for Reimbursement:
Submit a copy of your paid invoice, the doula attestation form, and your doula's credentials (if requested) to Carrot Fertility through their portal for approval of reimbursement.
